The Roman Disciplina according to Vegetius
Keywords:
VegetiusAbstract
Flavius Vegetius Renatus was neither a soldier, nor a historian, he worked as a clerk, possibly as a comes sacranum largitorum. 1 His work, the Epitoma Rei Militaris is the only source about the roman military that was preserved in its entirety.2 It’s dating is uncertain, it was most possibly written sometime between 383 and 450, most likely during Theodosius’ residence in Italy, between August 388 and June 391.3 The work is essentially a collection, it contains various sources.
